Our Core Values
To Eliminate Energy Waste Through Innovations in Continuous Energy Optimization
Our Core Values shape our culture, our brand and our business. These were collectively defined and enshrined by the entire Smart Joules team and on August 25th, 2018 during Twisted Saturday #2. Ideally, we want all 7 Core Values to be reflected in everything we do, including how we work, how we think, how we interact with each other and with our clients, vendors and business partners. Let’s individually and collectively ensure that each one of us lives by the following:
1. Empower Each Team Member with a Sense of Ownership:
Smart Joules is created by and belongs to each one of us. We accept personal accountability to eliminate energy waste, be innovative, be accountable for quality and completeness, improve our systems, and help others improve their effectiveness. We all act like owners of the company, treating the company’s assets as our own and behaving
with the company’s long-term success in mind.
2. Build a Positive Team and Family Spirit:
We are both a team and a family. We hire for values. Our entire team treats each other with respect and focuses on creating harmony. We treat our company as our home, watch out for each other, care for each other, and also interact with each other casually outside the office environment. Our Core Values are a living breathing thing not just a plaque on our walls. We build and nourish deep bonds.
3. Get Shit Done:
" Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen." Each one of us strives for a Ph.D. in Getting Shit Done. We accept every challenge that comes our way, deal with it and find a way to get the task completed. We don’t make excuses. When needed, we go above and beyond our daily responsibilities to generate the desired outcome. When in doubt, we have the confidence to take the best decision we can under the circumstances rather than unnecessarily wait for directions and risk underperformance.
4. Maintain a High Level of Transparency and Honesty:
We believe that transparency and honesty make for the best relationships because that leads to trust and faith. It’s hard to build trust, but if trust exists, we can accomplish so much more than we would otherwise. It’s not what you say or what you do, it’s how you make people feel that matters the most. In order for someone to feel good about a relationship, he/she must know that the other person is honest and transparent. With increasing size and diversity, we want everyone to always try to go the extra mile in practicing and encouraging open, honest, complete and effective communication.
5. Be Passionate, Determined and Bold:
We believe that “the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.” Passion and determination are the fuels that inspire us individually and collectively, and our team has these qualities in abundance. We bring our full selves to the table, each and every time. Our team thrives off the energy that comes from going beyond the expected. We believe that the biggest danger is in achieving ambitions and targets that are not crazy enough. We celebrate mistakes as long as we learn from them. We encourage and empower people to take risks. If we don’t fail, we know we’re not trying hard enough. We are bold and daring, but not reckless.
6. Pursue Growth and Learning:
We challenge and stretch ourselves. We believe that inside every team member lies more potential than they themselves realize. Our goal is to help each member unlock that potential. Each one of us has unique capabilities, talents, and skills to teach our teammates, and is in turn eager to learn and imbibe those of others. We are mindful of what we want and need to learn and find a way to do it. We do the best we can until we learn better. Then once we know better, we do better.
7. Be Adventurous, Creative and Open-minded:
We know the thinking of yesterday is not along going to solve tomorrow’s problems. We question the status quo and explore new ways of thinking, new ways of creating, new ways of collaborating, new ways of doing, new ways of learning and new ways of teaching.
We don’t criticize ideas that seem crazy, but welcome and nurture them until there are better ideas. We laugh at ourselves. We believe that a good story is much more valuable than a little more money. If opportunity doesn’t knock, we build doors.
